Gullivers Travels
Last Monday afternoon (15 July 2024), this juvenile Herring Gull, found itself in my garden; on top of a Lavender bush, to be precise. I presume it 'rolled' off the roof, where the parent birds remain with its sibling.
The adult birds have, after a couple of days, started to come down to the juvenile, but as of yet, do not seem interested in feeding. After quite some time, I decided it was best I tried to feed this fledgling; and so far, it is responding really well; consuming up to three tins of sardines a day (rinsed of the tomato sauce). I think it will be at least 4 tins today. It also has a little trough of water, which it uses after each feed to drink and wash its beak.
My main concern is the local cat. Anyway, this is day 4; so far, so good, with this little 'explorer'.
